Fidel Castro Praises the Caribbean
Cuban President Fidel Castro said he is leaving Barbados with more affection and love for the Caribbean islands and its excellent leaders.

"This was an unforgettable day," stated the Cuban head of State after paying tribute to the victims of the terrorist attack on a Cuban plane off Barbadian coasts on October 6, 1976, that killed 73 people.

Fidel Castro laid a wreath at the monument along with Carlos Cremata, son of a DC-8 crew who died in that criminal action supported by the United States and where one of whose masterminds, Luis Posada Carriles, remains without answering to the cause of justice.

This was Fidel Castro"s third visit to this Eastern Caribbean nation, after those carried out in 1994 and 1998, when unveiling the monument erected to the Barbados Crime victims.

Most of Caribbean leaders thanked Cuba for the Operation Miracle and the over 10,500 people with eye afflictions who have received ophthalmologic surgery free in the island.

The 3rd Cuba-CARICOM Summit will be held in Cuba in 2008. The first meeting took place in Havana in 2002.
