Corruption Reaches Panama

Panama ex President Mireya
Moscoso tops a group of ten
legislators solicited for
investigation by the Attorney
General´s Office on charges of
corruption.
The investigation is another
drop in the bucket of illegal
enrichment and state fund
embezzlement in Panama, and
involves several judges.
Official sources say Attorney
General Ana Matilde Gomez asked
for an investigation for similar
charges of ex President Moscoso,
now a legislator in the Central
American Parliament.
Coincidentally, the US annulled
an entry visa for Supreme Court
Justice Winston Spadafora for
alleged corruption, although
they submitted no evidence.
Moscoso is charged with
accepting four million dollars
from the Cuban Mafia in Miami to
exonerate terrorist Luis Posada
Carriles and his acolytes.
"However, her visa is not likely
to be cancelled as she is a
personal friend of President
Bush," said Mario Velazquez in
his program Analisis de la
Noticia, on KW-Continente radio.
On the list with Moscoso are
Jorge Hernan Rubio (Popular
Party), Dorindo Cortez
(Democratic Revolutionary
Party), Juan Hernandez and Jose
Blandon Figueroa (Panameñista,
Raul Rodriguez (PRD), Hermisenda
Perea (PRD), Alejandro Vanegas (PRD),
Rogelio Alba (Liberal Nacional)
and Franz Wever (PRD).
Most charges against them are
linked to theft from public
funds and the national heritage.
