Zelaya Is Unofficial Honduran President
The Honduran Electoral Supreme Court (TSE) announced Liberal Party candidate Manuel Zelaya as winner of the November 27 presidential elections, although official results are yet to be released.

TSE Judges Aristides Mejias, Jacobo Hernandez and Saul Escobar alleged they cannot reveal final results as there are still 11.4 percent of votes to be revised, but this will not alter the expectation, they stated.

Mejias confirmed that 88.66 of votes for the presidency and vice presidency had been counted.

President of the institution in charge said that the current results (49.90 percent of votes for the Liberal Party, 46.17 for the National Party, 1.51 for Democratic Union, 1.40 for the Christian Democracy and 1.40 and 1.02 for Innovation and Unity Parties respectively) are partial but official.

Liberal followers protesting the delay stopped their peaceful demonstration after learning these results. However, Zelaya called to expedite the process to end the uncertainty.

Local media has already begun to refer to Zelaya as the elected president, confirmed his meeting with a US delegation headed by the US official for diplomacy and public affairs, Karen Hughes.

The country´s vulnerability to natural phenomena, the fight against traffic, and the Free Trade Area were, among others, topics of the agenda.

Zelaya commented to press that this meeting was open evidence of Washington´s recognition of him as Honduras´ official president.

 Another significant fact was the reception given by Honduran First Lady Aguas Ocana de Maduro to Xiomara de Zelaya in a meeting to discuss the continuity of social projects.
