Trade Talks with Nebraska
Companies Start in Cuba
Representatives of more than a
dozen companies from the US
state of Nebraska and Cuban
import company Alimport have
begun negotiations for an
eventual sale of agricultural
products to the Island.
A US delegation headed by
Nebraska governor Dave Heineman
represents the wheat, corn,
beans and other grains sector, a
source from Alimport told Prensa
Latina.
The signing of a memorandum of
understanding between both
parties is expected as part of
these talks that began on Monday
at Havana´s National Hotel.
US business people are also
exploring business opportunities
on other fields in the Caribbean
Island.
After his arrival in Havana,
Heineman pleaded for normalized
relations with Cuba and
broadened bilateral trade links.
Alimport executive Pedro Alvarez
stressed that despite the US
economic blockade, 34 US states
are seeking to establish trade
links with Cuba, where there is
an ever increasing presence of
US business people and
personalities.
The US delegation will stay in
Cuba until Friday.
A delegation from the state of
Vermont also visited Cuba a few
days ago.
The Island has bought US goods
worth 1.40 billion dollars so
far since 2001 when these sales
began.
