Two Conviction for Copying CD's
The two owners of the internet café, Ciber Café, in San Joaquín de Flores, Heredia, were convicted by the Tribunal de Juicio de Heredia to two years in prison for selling music downloaded from the internet.

Accordint to court records, in July of 2002, an agent of the Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) visited the internet café and asked the manager to produce a compact disc of Elvis Crespo.

The agent was charged ¢800 colones (us$2 then) and paid with a marked colones note.

Following the purchase, the OIJ obtained a court order to raid the premises where police found the marked note and signs offering reproduction of compact discs, among other incriminating evidence.

The two men were charged and convicted for violation of "Ley de propiedad intelectual" - copyright laws.
