Electricity More Costly Today
Beginning today you should be
more careful in your use of
electrical energy as your
metered used will now cost
between 7.8% and 17.3% more.
The Autoridad Reguladora de los
Servicios Públicos (Aresep) -
the regulating body of public
prices and services - gave the
green light to the increase
several weeks back and today
will be published in the
official newspaper La Gaceta,
which is required for any public
price increase.
Some 1.2 million customers of
the Instituto Costarricense de
Electricidad (ICE) that covers
all electrical power consumer
from coast to coast will see the
increase.
For customers who pay to the
Compañía Nacional de Fuerza y
Luz (CNFL) - a division of ICE -
the increase will be 12.4%,
while customers of the unta
Administrativa del Servicio
Eléctrico de Cartago (Jasec)
will pay 13.6% more, customers
of Empresa de Servicios Públicos
de Heredia (ESPH) 16.5% and only
7.8% for customers of Coopelesca
(San Carlos).
ICE develops and produces
electrical energy and sells it
to utility companies for resale
to customers. In the Central
valley (San José), electrical
energy is resold by the CNFL a
division of ICE while in remote
areas it is resold by smaller,
local utility companies or ICE
directly.
