Government Announces Plan to Combat Rising Oil Prices
Electricity to Increase
Saprissa Fan to the Death!

Electricity  to Increase
Last month bus fares increased. This month the cost of electricity is set to rise, as the Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Públicos (ARESEP) - the regulating authority on public prices and services - gave the green light to an average 17.3% increase in the cost of electrical power.

The Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) that generates electrical power and resells it to local utility companies, including it's subsidiary, La Compañia Nacional de Fuerza y Luz (CNFL), has asked for a 24% increase last November.

What the increase will mean for the consumer is that a family that consumes 250KWh per month would have to pay ¢1.545 colones more for the consumption.

The increase will come into effect April 15.
