Cuban Five Wives Request Catalan Parliament Support
Olga Salanueva and Adriana Perez, wives of two of the five Cubans imprisoned in the United States for trying to put a stop to terrorist actions against the island, requested that Catalan parliamentarians support their cause.

The two women delivered a letter to Catalan congressman Jordi Miralles, coordinator of the United Alternative Left group, explaining how the Cuban Five are hostages of the most powerful empire of the planet that hypocritically says it fights terrorism.

From the time they were arrested on September 12, 1998, states the document, their most elemental human and legal rights have been violated, and this has been repeatedly denounced not only by their defense lawyers but also by non-governmental organizations throughout the world.

Fernando Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Rene Gonzalez and Ramon Labañino are serving harsh, unfair and inhuman sentences ranging from 15 years to double life imprisonment in the northern country.

Adriana said her husband Gerardo, who would need two lives to serve the double life imprisonment plus 15 years more, has an additional sentence: she has been repeatedly denied visitor visas to see him.

Olga Salanueva explained she lived legally in the United States for two years, a period in which she was linked to the charges that later were used to supposedly find Rene guilty, and now she nor her her daughter Ivette can visit him at prison.

Jordi Miralles received the letter and a small paper in which Ivette told him she learnt how to read and write the word "father," but she cannot see him because as a minor, she must go with her mother.
