Union Organizers Regroup for
Monday's Protests
Union organizers, who
supported truckers yesterday by
staging a march on downtown San
José, announced this morning
that they will save their
energies for Monday.
The secretary general of the
Asociación Nacional de Empleados
Públicos y Privados (ANEP),
Albino Vargas, told listeners of
"Radio Monumental" that there
are no planned protests for
today (Friday) - no marches, no
blockades.
We are holding off all
protestations for Monday, when
the government can expect
"something big". "On Monday we
would like to bring people in
from all parts of Costa Rica, to
demonstrate our unhappinesss of
all with the current
government", Vargas expressed.
The public institutions most
affected by the protests are the
Instituto Costarricense de
Electricidad (IC), some
hospitals and offices of various
government ministries.
According to Jorge Arguedas,
president of the Frente Interno
de Trabajadores del ICE,
confirmed that most of the
10.000 ICE workers will stay on
strike today.
Vargas, during his radio
broadcast, added that the
movement on Monday will depend
on their achievements over the
weekend to organize, but was
clear to state that the movement
will be prepared for a hard
fight.
