January 15th, 2016 (ICR News) The director of Costa Rica’s national intelligence agency known as DIS, Mariano Figueres said Thursday morning before the country’s Legislative Assembly that the agency plans to investigate how local media have managed to obtain a number of secret intelligence reports that have been published in recent days.
Without mentioning the newspaper by name, the investigation will no doubt focus on how the tabloid daily, Diario Extra managed to obtain intelligence reports from 2013 and 2014 concerning La Fortuna businessman and hotelier, Alberto Rodriguez Baldi, which the newspaper published portions of this week.
The first report concerns an alleged party hosted by the businessman for the son of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, El Chapo’s ex-wife, and Sinaloa cartel members at his flagship hotel, the Baldi Hot Springs Resort Hotel & Spa, located in La Fortuna de San Carlos, which the newspaper published portions of on Tuesday. That report is dated 2014, though the alleged gathering occurred in 2012.
The second report concerns an intelligence brief tying Baldi to the triple murder of a rival La Fortuna hotelier and his two sons that occurred in 2013, portions of which the newspaper published on Friday.
