January 11th, 2016 (ICR News) Two men from the United States were killed over the weekend in separate road accidents, both occurring Saturday afternoon.
One of the men, identified by the Judicial Investigative Police (OIJ) as Vincent Roderick, 40, was killed after losing control of his motorcycle on Route 27, near the Salinas de Esparza interchange. Roderick, a member of the Steel Angels motorcycle club, was reportedly speeding when he lost control shortly before 1 p.m., slamming into a guardrail. The man, who was apparently not wearing a helmet, was declared dead at the scene.
The second incident, also Saturday afternoon, occurred near Playa Ventanas in Osa, in the province of Puntarenas.
There, a US man identified as Ron McDonald lost control of his Land Cruiser SUV for unknown reasons and plunged down a 25-meter ravine.
McDonald, who was traveling with two females who were also injured in the accident, is believed to have died instantly.
The passengers were identified as Sofia Hidalgo Badilla, 46 and Silvia Hidalgo Quesada, 32. Paramedics took the women to an area hospital.
Authorities are investigating if a possible mechanical failure could have led to the accident.
