Riteve inspectors to begin checking vehicle odometers

January 4^th, 2016 (ICR News) Riteve, the Spanish company that holds the government concession to provide annual mandatory vehicle inspections (RTV) in Costa Rica, will begin checking odometers effective Monday, January 4^th.

Under the new rules, if a vehicle’s odometer reads less mileage than the year prior, the vehicle will receive a “minor” (leve) defect mark on its inspection certificate, indicating the discrepancy, but can still pass inspection.

If a vehicle’s odometer is unreadable, or it has been removed from the vehicle since the time the vehicle was imported into the country, the vehicle will fail inspection.
