AyA asks to increase water rates 49.5 percent for conservation, protection of water resources

December 28th, 2015 (ICR News) The Costa Rican Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers (AyA) has requested permission from the Regulatory Authority for Public Services (ARESEP) to increase customers’ water bills by 49.5 percent between 2016 and 2020 to create a new fund for the “management, conservation and protection of water resources,” according to AyA.

 

The proposal seeks a 4.3 percent increase for 2016; 7.6 percent in 2017; 9.8 percent in 2018; 12.6 percent in 2019 and 15.2 percent in 2020 in order to fund the initiative.

 

The increases would apply to residential, business and government customers and would be in addition to regular increases that are applied periodically.

 

A public hearing will be held January 7th at 5pm at the ARESEP offices in Guachipelin, Escazu.

    As is happening all over the rest of the world, corporations and governments are sucking up all water rights and prices. One projection here in CR about 20 years before the water becomes a serious problem, so it makes sense that after so many years of not maintaining the water supply system, that they are preparing to fix the leaks and replace bad sections of the water tubing. The only thing is that this extra money should be used only to do what they say it is for.

      And also the Bush family! They purchased over 300,000 acres in Paraquay, that sits on top of one of the world’s largest and purest aquifers! The Bushes are thinking ahead…..and the rest will pay!

    What only 49.5% > Go ahead triple that amount ……. Other than Guanacaste most of CR doe not have a water problem. More of the delivery system and leaking pipes.
