Meet the young Costa Rican man accused of murdering US aid worker, Sondra Lynn Elizondo

December 16^th, 2015 (ICR News) A man arrested on Friday as the prime suspect in the brutal murder of US aid worker and charity founder, Sandra Lynn Elizondo, has been identified by reliable sources as 25-year-old Alejandro Obando Vega.

ICR News was able to locate Obando’s profile on Facebook, in which Obando lists his hometown as Cartago and states he is a graduate of the Enrique Guier Saenz high school in Paraiso.  Obando is a Saprissa fan, and amongst his other ‘likes’ on the social networking site – perhaps ironically – Obando lists the Judicial Investigative Police (OIJ), the same law enforcement agency in charge of the murder investigation.

While Obando’s profile is not totally open to the public, what may stand out the most is how seemingly “normal” the young man, now accused of a brutal murder, appears to be.

Obando stands accused of the murder of 46-year-old Elizondo, with whom he shared a romantic relationship.

Elizondo, who lived in Florida but visited Costa Rica often, was the co-founder of Vida Volunteer, an organization that provides free medical and dental care in needy communities in Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Guatemala. She was also the mother of two teenagers.

Elizondo’s body was found naked in a pool of blood, with multiple stab wounds to the neck, chest, and abdomen, in a hotel room in San Jose’s Barrio California neighborhood last Wednesday.
