US woman found brutally murdered in San Jose hotel room

UPDATE: US woman murdered in San Jose hotel was charity founder, mother of two

December 10th, 2015 (ICR News) A woman from the United States was found brutally murdered in a small hotel in San Jose’s Barrio California, near the Nicaraguan embassy, on Wednesday, authorities confirm.

The woman is believed to be 46 years of age and identified by the last name Lynn, according to sources with knowledge of the investigation.  It is believed the woman arrived in Costa Rica on Saturday on some type of business, according to sources.

The victim was found naked in a pool of blood, with multiple stab wounds to the neck, chest and abdomen.  Blood splatter was found in the room indicative of defensive wounds, according to sources that are not yet authorized to speak on the matter.

The woman is said to have checked into the hotel, known as “Casa 69,” with a younger Costa Rican man, who authorities are seeking as a primary suspect in the crime, according to the Judicial Investigative Police (OIJ).

So Sad, so sad. Hope they somehow catch this guy. A robbery for sure

  • Andy Browne

    Sounds like a hooker/john scenario.

    • Andrew

46 year-old gringa hooker? I seriously doubt it! In the 15 or so years I’ve drunk at gulch area bars, I have never seen/ been approached by a gringa hooker. They simply don’t exist.

He might have meant the other way around. It works both ways ya know…

Do you have a photo of the front of this building please? Or a better description of exactly where it is? I was staying at a small hotel in that area when it was robbed by a couple who fed “Burundanga” or knockout drops ( a “Mickey Finn” ) in a coffee–to the poor woman who was managing the hotel at the time. I was staying in a room near the front desk when it happened and others in the hotel reported being robbed. It was known that I carry a gun so I was spared. The poor manager was almost killed by overdose–she was really out of it for days. Then other hotels in the area were robbed also. A female lesbian couple checked in 1st–a large bulldyke with a feminine partner. Next day a Colombian man checked in–they turned out to be a team. Very slick huh? I believe a Costa Rican young guy staying there set it up. His name is Eric. He speaks perfect English and is smart–knowing alot about computers. ALOT. His family is from Guanacaste and evidently a good family. No more details. Sorry.–If you manage or own a small hotel/hostel in San Jose or elsewhere–Beware of Eric, Lesbian couple followed by Slim 30 ish Colombian male. Where ever you are –Guard your drink!!!!! Eyes open in Costa Rica!!!!

It is the pea-green colored one, apparently.

Not sure why this photo won’t show up – if it does, it is the building with the pea-green perimeter wall.

I “stayed” at the Hotel Bristol many times, nice hotel in the same area, cedula required.

Here is a better photo. We feel bad for naming the place in the story because obviously this isn’t the fault of the ownership, but we’re in the news business. The hotel is http://www.casa69.com/

Any better description of the younger male who was with this American woman?

      Not yet.

    Sad news.

  • Andrew

Incredibly sad. As much as I love San Jose, I would never let my sister, daughter or niece be there by themselves. Life is cheap in SJ and scumbags see every North American as a walking ATM. Add a single woman to the equation and you have a scumbag magnet. I just hope that that hotel was equipped with surveillance cameras. Of course if caught, the perpetrator will get something like 5 years. At the risk of sounding like Donald Trump, a case like this screams for the death penalty.

Costa Rica needs the Death Penalty.

Thanks Tim-you are quite a detective /reporter. Great pics of the hotel and was able to find it exactly from their directions in their advertising.

As reported in ICR earlier this month, 58% of last year’s murders have gone unsolved. This beautiful young woman’s family has a 40% chance of seeing any sort of justice for her senseless loss. Go to Vida Volunteer Travel’s Facebook page and read the responses to their founder’s brutal murder. This beautiful woman touched many people’s lives and helped countless others. Only the good die young.
