Liberia airport to simulate full-scale air disaster Thursday afternoon

November 12th, 2015 (ICR News) The Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia, Guanacaste will simulate a full-scale air disaster beginning at 3pm on Thursday.

The exercise is intended to test the protocols and responsiveness of airport and emergency authorities.

Some 17 agencies will be involved in the exercise, including aviation authorities, firefighters, law enforcement, the Judicial Investigative Police (OIJ), the Department of Intelligence and Security (DIS), public health officials (CCSS), the Ministry of Health, the National Emergency Commission, and immigration authorities, amongst others.

The drill will consist of a simulation in which an aircraft that experiences significant problems shortly after takeoff, starting with problems with its landing gear, ends with a crash-landing that ruptures a wing, leading to a fuel spill.

The exercise is expected to last about one hour.
