Second plane in ten days crash-lands at San Jose airport without landing gear

Editor’s Note: To avoid confusion for those outside Costa Rica, the airport mentioned in this story is the San Jose municipal airport located in the San Jose suburb of Pavas, not the Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) located in Alajuela.

November 4^th, 2015 (ICR News) For the second time in less than a month, a small aircraft has crash-landed at San Jose’s Tobias Bolaños airport in Pavas after the aircraft failed to deploy its landing gear.

The incident took place shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday morning.  Mechanical problems are believed to be responsible.

The two occupants of the Cessna-182 single-engine aircraft were reportedly unharmed, though an ambulance responding to the airport in response to the emergency alert was apparently involved in a traffic collision near the Lindora Bridge while en route.

Just ten days ago, a twin-engine Piper PA-34-200 aircraft carrying former Costa Rican president, Jose Maria Figueres (1994-1998) was also forced to crash-land at the same airport after the aircraft’s landing gear refused to deploy.
