November 2nd, 2015 (ICR News) Three bodies were discovered together in a clandestine grave in a field near the road to Rancho Redondo, Goicoechea on Sunday, according to the Judicial Investigative Police (OIJ).
The discovery was made after a bystander on Saturday stopped to urinate near the scene, and alerted authorities of the presence of bullet casings, blood and recently disturbed earth at the location.
A forensic team on Sunday carefully excavated the grave to a depth of some 10 feet during a painstaking 12-hour operation in order to preserve evidence.
The team discovered that lime or caustic soda had been used to speed decomposition of the victims’ remains, who all had their clothing removed.
Some 30 9mm bullet casings were also recovered from the scene.
The remains were transported to the judicial morgue in San Joaquin de Flores, Heredia, where coroners and forensic experts will attempt to determine their identities.
