October 15th, 2015 (ICR News) Medical staff and workers at The National Women’s Hospital (Hospital de la Mujer) abandoned their posts Thursday morning, demanding improvements to the hospital.
The head of the National Union of Employees of the Caja (Undeca), Victor Arce, told CRHoy.com that staff are demanding improvements in infrastructure after a fire that occurred recently in one of the delivery rooms of the medical center, adding that some areas of the hospital are up to 70 years old and in poor condition.
Workers are also demanding additional staff for the hospital.
Staff are currently only attending to emergencies as the work stoppage continues.
On Friday, nearly all public hospitals and medical centers in the San Jose metro area and the Central Valley will only be attending to emergencies as public health workers and medical staff join in a massive general strike of public sector employees.
