October 13th, 2015 (ICR News) Coast Guard officials on a night patrol of the Junquillal beach in Santa Cruz, Guanacaste, arrested two men Friday night who where in possession of 315 protected sea turtle eggs.
Unfortunately, due to poor handling of the eggs by the poachers, it was determined that the eggs were no longer viable and were destroyed.
Coast Guard officials have stepped up patrols in the area as the result of the olive ridley spawning season.
The day prior, on Thursday, police officers seized 285 olive ridley eggs from a driver in Herradura, near Jaco, Puntarenas.
