Alajuela to install 120 surveillance cameras in 2016

September 29^th, 2015 (ICR News) The municipality of Alajuela announced on Monday its plan to install 120 urban surveillance cameras in 2016 to combat crime.

The plan is part of the municipalities ¢23 billion (about US $43 million) budget for 2016, which was approved on Thursday.

The system will cost ¢365 million, or about US $682,000, and is expected to come fully online in the second half of next year.

The system intends to provide early detection of criminal activities in some of Alajuela’s more problematic districts.

The Alajuela cantons of Atenas and Orotina already have similar systems that were put in place last year by the Ministry of Public Security.
