UPDATE: US woman, two young children missing in Costa Rica located in good health

UPDATE 2: The missing woman and her two children were located and in good health. They had apparently traveled to a remote area near Chirripo without phone or Internet service without advising family members. The family thanks the public for their concern. ### ORIGINAL STORY FOLLOWS ###

Editor’s note / update 1: The missing woman’s sister assures ICR News that she is in no way involved in any sort of custody dispute over her children and that the woman and her former partner are on good terms.  She had remained in regular contact during her travels.  Additionally, She is approximately 5’4″ tall and around 120 pounds.  

September 16^th, 2015 (ICR News) A woman from the United States and her two young children who had been visiting Costa Rica since July have been missing since September 7^th.

The family of 44-year-old Amber Lynn Chaney are asking for the public’s assistance in locating the woman and her two young children, 8-year-old Ava and 5-year-old David.

They were last seen getting into a car at 10:38 a.m. after checking out of the Hotel Villa Los Candiles in the western San Jose suburb of Santa Ana.

According to cell phone records provided by Verizon, her cell phone from the US has not been used since the day she went missing, and a prepaid phone she was carrying goes straight to voicemail, according to a private investigator who spoke to ICR News.

The US Embassy and local authorities have been notified but there has been no sign of the family since they went missing.

Speaking to ICR News by telephone, the missing woman’s sister, Elizabeth Chaney, said that her sister, who lives in Maryland, always stayed in regular contact while traveling and it would be completely out of character for her to go more than a few days without contacting family. Chaney said that her sister is fluent in Spanish and had traveled to Costa Rica in the past, and was considering relocating here.

The woman and her children were traveling with a black puppy that they rescued from a beach during a recent trip to Dominical.
