Body of American exchange student recovered from sea in Quepos

September 11th, 2015 (ICR News) The body of Deon Greene, a 21-year-old US exchange student from North Carolina, was discovered floating not far from the shore of Playa Linda in Matapalo de Quepos minutes before 11 a.m. on Friday.
Greene had been missing since around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday after apparently being swept away by a riptide while swimming at the same beach.
Greene’s death marks the 88th fatal drowning in the country so far this year.
Speaking to ICR News, Greene’s sister, Terry McKnight, said that Greene aspired to work in medicine and was in Costa Rica to study Spanish.
Greene was an exchange student at the National University of Costa Rica (UNA) and was scheduled to return to the US in December.
Greene’s death adds to a string of both foreign and domestic tourists who have drowned after succumbing to riptides on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast this year.
