September 10th, 2015 (ICR News) In a series of arrests Wednesday morning, the Judicial Investigative Police (OIJ) dismantled a gang of eight cattle rustlers responsible for the theft of more than US $1.5 million in cattle in the area of Carillo, Guanacaste and surrounding areas since 2013.
Firearms, documents, a cattle truck allegedly used to transport stolen cattle, and other evidence were seized by authorities during the raids.
Authorities said that the band allegedly sold the stolen cattle at livestock auctions.
One victim of the rustling gang alone had 100 bulls valued at nearly US $100,000 stolen from his farm, according to authorities.
