September 7th, 2015 (ICR News) Workers and medical staff at the public Hospital La Anexión in Nicoya will begin an “indefinite” strike at 6 a.m. on Tuesday in protest against the privatization of cleaning and security services at the hospital, services that the hospital plans to turn over to private contractors.
The head of the National Union of Employees of the Caja (Costa Rica’s public health and social security administration, or CCSS) said that all services provided at the hospital would be affected and that staff would only be available to attend to emergencies.
The director of the hospital, Dr. Anner Angulo said earlier that the privately contracted services were hired to provide cleaning and security to the hospital’s new medical tower beginning in 2016.
CCSS officials had previously announced a meeting to discuss the issue on Wednesday.
