August 14th, 2015 (ICR News) The Costa Rican Oil Refinery (RECOPE) has requested a reduction in the price of gasoline and diesel to regulator ARESEP, the state-owned company announced on Friday.

RECOPE has requested a reduction from ¢676 per liter (¢2,559 per gallon) to ¢632 per liter (¢2,392 per gallon) for “super” gasoline and a reduction from ¢639 per liter (¢2,419 per gallon) to ¢600 per liter (¢2,271 per gallon) for regular gasoline as well as a reduction in diesel from ¢477 per liter (¢1,806 per gallon) to ¢449 per liter (¢1,700 per gallon).

Regulator ARESEP, which is expected to approval the reductions, has until August 28th to publish its decision in the official La Gaceta.  As such, the price reductions are expected to take place during the first half of September.

RECOPE said the move was the result of falling international prices for gasoline and diesel, which the state-owned company imports pre-refined.  The price per barrel for refined gasoline dropped $15 per barrel between July 10 and August 10, according to RECOPE.
