Mother wrestles five-year-old free from the jaws of large crocodile

August 10^th, 2015 (ICR News) A mother managed to wrestle her five-year-old son from the jaws of a large crocodile at the family’s home near the Tortuguero National Park in Guacimo, Limon on Friday.

The child stepped out the back door of the family’s home when the crocodile attacked, carrying the child to the banks of the Parismina River which passes directly behind the family’s home, Teresa Navarro told rescuers.

The family’s home had been flooded when the river broke its banks due to torrential rains in the area on Thursday.

The woman said she used all her strength to pry her son’s arm and leg free from the jaws of the croc.

The child had wounds on his arms, legs, and buttocks and was rushed to a clinic in Guacimo where doctors performed first aid.  The child was later transported to the hospital in Guapiles.

In May 2007, a 13-year-old was killed by a crocodile while playing with his brother and two friends in nearby Tortuguero.
