British Airways to launch service from London to Costa Rica

August 5^th, 2015 (ICR News) British Airways will launch direct service between Britain’s Gatwick airport and San Jose, Costa Rica beginning on May 4^th, 2016, the airline announced on Wednesday.

The airline will initially fly a Boeing 777 aircraft twice per week to San Jose’s Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO), adding a third weekly flight later that year.

The initial flights, which will carry passengers from London to Costa Rica in less than 11 hours will operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

“British Airways’ new service from the United Kingdom to Costa Rica is wonderful news.  In the last twelve months alone we have seen an increase of 12.9 percent in the number of UK tourists visiting Costa Rica, staying an average of two weeks, and helping to make a valuable contribution to the Costa Rican economy,” Mauricio Ventura, Costa Rica’s tourism minister said.

“With everything from its incredible wildlife, rugged rainforests and volcanic peaks, as well as stunning beaches and – of course – world-famous coffee – Costa Rica offers an incredible array of places to visit and experience,” British Airways spokesperson Colm Lacy said. “We’re very excited to have the opportunity to fly nonstop between London and San Jose and we’re sure this route will prove very popular with those looking for a holiday that’s definitely out of the ordinary.”

Prices for the flights start from £687, according to the airline.
