Thousands in Costa Rica’s Central Valley report mysterious “booming” sounds Tuesday night

June 24th, 2015 (InsideCostaRica.com) Thousands of people in Costa Rica’s Central Valley and other areas of the country took to social media Tuesday night to report hearing mysterious “booming” sounds.

Many who heard the booms believed they might have been the result of a volcanic or seismic event, but authorities took to television and social media to dispel the idea, saying that the sounds were not related to any recorded seismic or volcanic events.

Social media users suggested everything from the HAARP program to “The Hum” to explain the phenomenon, though the most likely hypothesis is more down to earth: fireworks.

Catholics celebrate the eve of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist on June 23rd, and fireworks are a typical part of the celebration in Costa Rica.

Still, not everyone is convinced as to the origin of the sounds.  Many Facebook and Twitter users reported that the sounds sounded nothing like fireworks.

Did you hear the “booms?” Did they sound like fireworks? Let us know in the comments below.

I was thinking it was lady Chinchilla, Johnny and Oscar releasing some hot air?? The smell killing us over here in this side of the valley. That is my best guess anyway.
