June 22nd, 2015 (InsideCostaRica.com) A U.S. man identified by the last name Morehead was shot outside his home in Pozos de Santa Ana around 8 p.m. Thursday night in an apparent carjacking, according to the Judicial Investigative Police (OIJ).
According to the OIJ, a suspect intercepted the victim as he pulled up to his home. The suspect shot the man in the left side of his body, forcing him from the vehicle in which he sped off.
Morehead was taken to the San Juan de Dios hospital.
The victim’s vehicle however was equipped with a GPS tracking device, which led police to raid a warehouse in San Antonio de Desamparados Friday night.
In the warehouse, which appears to have been used as a chop shop, police discovered the victim’s vehicle as well as another vehicle that had been reported stolen. Police also discovered two vehicle engines that had their VIN numbers removed and license plates belonging to a third vehicle that had been reported stolen in May.
A 37-year-old man identified by the last name Arce was taken into custody at the warehouse. Officials said the man has no criminal record and is currently facing charges of receiving stolen property.
The suspect who shot Morehead has not been identified by officials.
