May 4th, 2015 (InsideCostaRica.com) Riptides claimed the lives of two beachgoers in separate incidents on Saturday and Sunday at Jaco beach.
The body of a 17-year-old identified by the last names Ferna Chavarria was discovered on the beach around 7 p.m. on Saturday near the Hicaco residential development. Ferna and a friend had been swept to sea by a powerful undercurrent around 5 p.m. Ferna’s friend was able to escape unharmed.
On Sunday morning, a young man identified by the last names Rodriguez Mora, 25 ignored warnings from lifeguards to stay out of the water due to the presence of strong riptides.
Rodriguez later disappeared. Authorities were continuing to search for the man as of Sunday evening, who is believed to have drowned.
