April 21st, 2015 (InsideCostaRica.com) President Luis Guillermo Solis accepted the resignation of Costa Rica’s tourism minister and head of the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT), Wilhem von Breymann on Tuesday.

 

Since late last year, the minister had been under fire from many in the tourism sector, who claimed von Breymann failed to make important and timely decisions and gave little voice to the sector within the Solis administration.

 

The minister had previously pointed to an 8% increase in tourism revenues in 2014, and the arrival of new airlines servicing the country in his defense.

 

At a noon press conference, President Solis thanked von Breymann for his service.  The minister stated he was stepping down “for personal reasons.”

    I can`t remember if it was $60,000 or $80,000 that he spent on the motto “Esencial”. Apparently there are others who consider this as being pretty darned stupid, too. But of course, that would probably be only one month of his salary that was spent on the logo, so he would naturally consider the sum to be mere pocket change.

    I think the tourism folks are just making him the fall guy, and if I were him I’d resign too. Who needs it?
