Claro eliminates roaming, international calling charges across Central America

April 21st, 2015 (InsideCostaRica.com) Mobile carrier Claro has announced that effective immediately, its postpaid customers in Costa Rica and throughout the region will no longer be charged international rates when calling any country in Central America or Panama, and travelers will no longer be charged roaming fees when visiting any country in the region.
Claro customers will be charged the same per-minute rate to call any phone in Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Panama as they pay to call locally in their own country. Claro customers traveling to any of these countries will also no longer be charged international roaming fees. The same also applies to messaging and data, according to the company.
Company executives said the move comes as a response to the high demand for seamless communication in the region.
The change is only effective for postpaid clients, and the company said it has no plans to implement the measure for prepaid customers.
The company also said the move is unique to Central America, and it has no plans to expand the offering to other regions such as South America, the Caribbean, Mexico or the United States.
