Costa Rica’s Daniel Oduber airport doubled in passengers since 2010

April 20th, 2015 (InsideCostaRica.com) The Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR) in Liberia, Guanacaste has more than doubled the number of passengers it handles over the last five years, according to Costa Rica’s civil aviation authorities.

 

The airport received 755,000 travelers in 2014, representing 17% of the country’s total international air passengers, estimated at 4.4 million.

 

That figure is more than double that of five years ago: in 2010, the airport handled 295,000 passengers, or 7.2% of the country’s total international air passengers.

 

Meanwhile, passenger traffic at the capital city’s airport, Juan Santamaria International (SJO), remained flat during the same period, handling 3.7 million international passengers annually.

 

LIR is also handling far more aircraft: 6,500 in 2014 compared to 3,700 in 2010.

 

The arrival of several low-cost airlines servicing Liberia has helped to fuel passenger traffic to the airport, according to industry analysts.

    What is Costa Rica doing with all the money with the people exiting the airport? It would be interesting to do the figures on the amount of people that have come and gone and do the math and see how much money has been taken in at the airport. What are they doing with the money? They are not fixing the roads that is for sure with this money!!!inside Costa Rica I challenge you to do the math and posted and then in the next edit of your magazine. let us know how much income Costa Rica brought in at the airport with just exit taxes. Ask the Costa Rica government to be accountable for this money!
