December 18th, 2014 (InsideCostaRica.com) A couple released by a judge three months ago after being arrested for operating a hydroponic marijuana growing operation were at it again, according to authorities.

 

Police arrested a woman, a U.S. citizen identified by the last name Dittrich, 56, and her husband, identified by the last name Chamorro, 44 on Wednesday at their Grecia home after surveillance revealed that the couple were once again growing and selling marijuana, despite having been released by a judge just three months earlier on the same charge.

 

At least three other suspects related to the operation were also arrested, in a series of raids in Alajuela, Santa Ana, and other locations.

 

Police confiscated ¢2.5 million and $7,900 in cash, and more than a kilo of marijuana packaged for sale.

      Like to see it decriminalized like many countries and States in the USA. CR grow it tax it help the CAJA, repair the schools and roads with the money. A win win for everyone.

        If the government could tax current marijuana sales at existing street prices and the current sales tax rate, it would be a major new source of revenue for the government. If they got the tax rate applied to tobacco and liquor, the government might actually get out of debt and improve the infrastructure. If people in prisons for minor drug offenses were let out, prison overcrowding would be eliminated and significant tax money now spent on arrests, trials, and prisons saved – California recently took that step and is seeing enormous savings.

        Most places that have decriminalized drug use have demonstrated that drug use has not increased as a result of that action.

          They could start with the Oligarchs and politicos… if they could collect what is rightly owed, they could then start to consider taxing (well produced) weed and get rid of the (mostly) incredibly bad crap being sold in the streets at ridiculous prices.

      Costa Rican prisons are scary hellholes, why not send drug dealers there?, do they deserve better?

      I’m guessing that the “US woman” is also a CR citizen, that her husband is a Tico. Other than bribery, this is the only way I can see that she avoided preventative detention or deportation. Are charges still pending on the prior charges?

      Decriminalization of marijuana use and regulation of cultivation and sales is the only sane policy. Even in most places where such policy exists, however, unregulated cultivation or sale is still a serious felony. If these folks were growing for personal use, the government should look the other way, as they do with minor possession. That does not appear to be the case. If they eventually do not end up in prison, I want the name of their abogado.

      The position of the pick-up to the gate does not appear appropriate for opening the porton with the chain. The heavy arms and body armor do not appear appropriate for an arrest of this type – were arms found when they were arrested before? Costa Rica does not need a bunch of “Keystone Cops” bearing automatic weapons and playing soldier in its residential neighborhoods any more than the US does.

    More money to be stolen by the police and CR government, they will keep the cash and sell the drugs back on the street.

    Notice the Pick up with the chain attached to the gate… I can imagine all the damage being done.. Then the house is ransacked most likely by guess who.

    So how does one get out of preventive detention?? Over at san sabastin prison they have a few cell blocks hold as many as 400 in one area. Only 2 phone lines to call in . Food is known as pig slop in Spanish. many have no beds sleep on the floor. Constant noise and being in with mentally ill and dangerous men who have murdered. My neighbor a few years back was a guard there he now works running a asphalt machine said it is a hell hole of humanity.. in Spanish.

    Costa Rican government should deport the US citizen back to the United States. If the US government does it, then other countries should deport the US filth back to the United States.

    poor CR, still trying to figure how to act as grownups.. wasting police resources, swat teams, military unis over-dressed overkill while dangerous criminals still roam throughout the country. War on drugs a failure in every other country… when will we all wise up?
