December 9th, 2014 (InsideCostaRica.com) The Tabacón resort hotel, world famous for its hot springs, has become the latest victim of an apparent crime spree sweeping through the La Fortuna area and the canton of San Carlos, after six gunmen stormed the hotel around 3 a.m. Monday morning.

The gunmen apparently stormed an office in the area of the spa and hot springs, at a time when no guests were present.  After subduing and pistol-whipping the guards, the gunmen reportedly attempted to access a safe.  When that failed, the robbers stole cameras, cell phones, electronic equipment and cash belonging to the hotel.

Hotel staff alerted 911 after the robbery, and police were able to detain two of the suspects about 40 km from the hotel, recovering two cell phones, a multimedia projector and cash.

The robbery is only the latest in dozens of armed robberies in the canton in the last six months.

I suspect Embolden criminals who have gotten away with many crimes. Now desperate robbing lodges and hotels . This should be an another wake up call from the GOVERNMENT allowing criminals go free after they are caught. This isn’t a good thing for tourist coming here. Now I like to find out what really happened to those who were caught with the goods? Was it another catch and release? Good work that the police caught them the JUDGES need to do the right thing lock them up.

You mean the police actually responded? Wow! I suspect that was only because this is a high profile tourist place. Forty km’s away? Wonder how they knew to stop whoever that might have been…????

This a good example of why the people need to be trained and armed. If you shoot some one in the commission of a crime there should be an award of at least $3,000. This would put the fear in to the criminal not the people.

Guards are always surprised, how interesting. Punks took some phones and other misc. electronic devices. Now they have to drive back to SJ and sell the loot for about ten cents on the dollar. Wont cover the gas for the round trip. Try a public hanging, just do something other than cuddling the fools.

Maybe they are robbing everywhere so they afford to go there.
