December 1st, 2014 (InsideCostaRica.com) Port police in Rotterdam in the Netherlands discovered on Friday more than 3,000 kilos of cocaine worth $150 million hidden in a container that arrived from Costa Rica, the AP and Dutch news sources report.
The cocaine was smuggled in a shipment of cassava root, better known in Costa Rica as yuca. The seizure is the second largest ever made in Rotterdam, after a seizure of 4,200 kilos in 2005.
Between 25% and 50% of cocaine consumed in western and central Europe is smuggled through the port city of Rotterdam, Dutch police said in April.
An investigation is ongoing and so far no arrests have been made.
