Judiciary approves creation of new “Narco Court,” aims to reduce corruption of judges

November 26th, 2014 (InsideCostaRica.com) The Full Court of the Judiciary approved on Monday the creation of a new tribunal that will exclusively investigate and prosecute cases of drug trafficking and organized crime.

 

The measure is intended to prevent the corruption and intimidation of judges by drug trafficking organizations, such as the May case of a Limon criminal judge who is accused of accepting some $40,000 USD to release a drug trafficker.

 

The measure is also intended to reduce leaks related to ongoing investigations by centralizing functions within the offices of the new “narco court,” which will be located in San Jose.  Those functions include the issuance and execution of search warrants and wiretaps, amongst others.

 

“Much of this information is leaked and investigations are spoiled.  Today, judges are exposed to direct intimidation in the communities where they live. […] [Judges] want to do their job properly without fear of losing their life or having those closest to them injured, kidnapped, or killed,” President of the Third Chamber, Judge Carlos Chinchilla told the daily La Nacion.

 

“If we are in San Jose we are better able to respond to emergency situations.”

 

The measure will be sent soon to the Legislative Assembly for review and approval by lawmakers.

    Death threats go with the job. If they are afraid? Quite taking the pay. Or protect yourself as you protect the law. President Solis has put his life on the line to stop the corruption in C.R. He has gone against ministries head on trying to clean up the bureaucratic mess in C.R. He is the number one target but he is doing what is right for the people.

      Getting educators inolved in politics is a smart move. People enter education because they are real public servants, not to make a buck. Having people with business backgrounds in government has proven to be a nightmare all over the globe. Business people look for profit, even when they are suppose to be public servants. This is the exact reason why the world is being controlled by the 1%. The corporate model has been propogated everywhere. And investment in societies and people have taken a back seat.

        Considering the education racket this country has. (the vast MAJORITY of education here is FOR profit)..teachers are essentially businessmen unless they work publicly.

    Legalize and Tax marijuana,use the money for prisons, have the death penalty and very hard labor for prisoners . There is no reason why prisons can pay for there selves.Finally cut all benefits and retirement for Congress.
