Former president Oscar Arias recovering after receiving pacemaker

November 21st, 2014 (InsideCostaRica.com) Former president of Costa Rica and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Oscar Arias is recovering at his home after receiving a pacemaker to control his heart rate on Wednesday.

 

Arias, 74, told the La Nacion newspaper that he required the pacemaker to control his heart rate as the result of high blood pressure.

 

“It is hereditary, my brother Rodrigo (former Minister of the Presidency) and I inherited it from my mother; [my brother] already has one (a pacemaker),” Arias told La Nacion.

 

Arias, who served as president from 1986-1990 and 2006-2010, was forced to cancel a visit to Cartagena, Colombia, where he was to participate in a forum with Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos.

      Right! What I wanted to do is to confirm he didn’t use the Caja. God knows I wouldn’t either, but it seems highly hypocritical of him not to, being a tico and ex-president and all. My point is, while he was president he had the chance to make the Caja considerably better than it presently is.
