Canadian man drowns in Tamarindo

November 20th, 2014 (InsideCostaRica.com) A 72-year-old Canadian man, identified as Dennis Dacuik, drowned yesterday in Tamarindo.

 

Dacuik was swimming near the Tamarindo Diria hotel when he and two others were struck by a powerful wave that pulled him far from shore.  Surfers and other bystanders were able to pull the man back to the beach, where he went into cardiac arrest.

 

Private doctors and medics from Air Evac International who were nearby responded to the scene and provided CPR and other aid for some 40 minutes before Dacuik was pronounced dead by first responders from the Red Cross.

 

The other swimmers were rescued without injury.
