Police discover $3 million in home after attempted robbery

October 30th, 2014 (InsideCostaRica.com) Police discovered at least $3 million USD in cash in a home in San Joaquin de Flores after responding to a home invasion robbery at the location.

 

The man who lives at the home, now suspected of money laundering and drug-related offenses, was shot in his home Tuesday night after several armed men barged into the home demanding money and drugs, according to officials and witnesses.

 

The subject remains hospitalized in the San Vicente de Paul Hospital in Heredia.

 

Officials said most of the cash was buried in the floor of the home and was discovered only after a thorough search was ordered following the discovery of $76,000 in cash in a bedroom by responding officers.

    I understand the background of the story … but is there anything inherently illegal about having this amount of money in the house? Yes, it’s suspicious but does that make it illegal? If the police/gov’t can’t prove money laundering & the drug related offenses would they have to return the money?

    Of course there’s disgusted’s comment which has some potential truth to it too.

      Will the policw give the money back…LMAO. Anytime the police want to steal someones money(alway they claim the money was connected to drugs or money laundering. Same as the guys who had the $124k in their car. Heres a good rule to follow. Never tell the police u have money. But this sounds like an inside job. Pretty interesting that the police were so thoroughly searching the victims house that they found his money hidden under the floor.

        Angel A.A. Many of us “gringos” and even Tico’s have a rainy day fund stashed away. You never know when the banks, ATM’s, and your card expired waiting for a new one and such are shut down for whatever reason. This was a tip off to the police about this stash. We only have their word it was 3 million dollars it could have been more however we will never know once divided up poof it is gone. We seem to have thieves on the streets and thieves who wear uniforms and then those who wear ties. Christmas came early for them.

        A gringo died in his house a while back. By the time the rightful heir got there 2 TV’s, Microwave, washer and a laptop was missing plus the house was ransacked by the police. oh they denied it… Claim they were looking for his passport and “important papers” Ha!
