Three passenger train derailments last week blamed on recent heavy rains

October 20th, 2014 (InsideCostaRica.com) INCOFER officials have dispatched work crews to perform maintenance and repairs to the railways in Barrio Escalante and other areas after three passenger trains derailed in a single week last week.

 

INCOFER spokeswoman, Maria Fernanda Arias told CRHoy.com that the derailments were the result of heavy rains in recent weeks that washed away some of the tracks’ ballast materials.

 

Crews began work on Thursday, and work could continue for as long as several weeks.

 

There were no reports of serious injuries from any of the derailments.

    I do sincerely believe that the educational curricula here should include at least the first three to five years the concept that water runs downhill, and it is a powerful solvent. If this simple concept were implemented and practiced here, I believe the country would be quite better in many respects. The rain didn’t cause the derailings. Ignorance and lack of capable supervision did.

    Excellent idea, Yeims.! Basic Physics does, indeed, seem to allude many Ticos. You only have observe some of their handyman creations or driving habits to have that confirmed. Have you noticed, as well, that when there is an accident, the explanation usually involves something to the effect of: “The car went off the road.” or “The wall fell over.” ? The human error factor never comes into play.
