October 10th, 2014 (InsideCostaRica.com) The rain has finally started to fall in Tamarindo. At this time of year, the tourist industry expects a slowdown and businesses take the time to refurbish their premises or take a much needed break. In some cases, businesses stay open hoping to capitalize on the needs of the local market. They offer resident discounts or simply keep their doors open, hoping that few options means that they will stay busy ‘enough’.
During this time, Tamarindo will benefit from a lifeguard training program that is taking place from October 6th and 14th, 2014. It is an 80-hour accredited program hosted by Seafari Costa Rica and Hang 10 Distribution. Lifeguards have not been present in Tamarindo since 2008 when the short-lived lifeguard program lost its funding.
The Tamarindo community has been calling for lifeguards since they disappeared in 2008. As one of Costa Rica’s most known surf breaks, especially popular among beginners, safety is paramount. This training program means that lifeguards will be available and residents and businesses are hopeful that the funding follows.
