Brazil de Mora residents complain of 1,000% increase in water bills after AyA takeover
October 9th, 2014 (InsideCostaRica.com) Residents of Brasil de Mora in Ciudad Colón are up in arms after seeing their water bills increase by as much as 1,000%, according to a report today by Spanish-language news site, CRHoy.com.
Brasil de Mora resident, Luz Angela Vasquez told CRHoy.com that residents’ water bills have skyrocketed since their community water system, known as an ASADA, was taken over by the Costa Rican Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers (AyA).
Vasquez said that families who were previously paying ¢8,000 per month are now paying as much as ¢60,000 per month or more for the same amount of water consumption.
The community has collected signatures from residents demanding an explanation from AyA and a complete revision and analysis of the meters used by AyA. Residents are also demanding their water bills in print with a summary of usage.
