Judge shot outside bar by unknown assailants

September 29th, 2014 (InsideCostaRica.com) The Flagrancy Court judge for Desamperados, Jose Manuel Chinchilla Chavarria, 54, died Friday night after being shot in the head outside a bar in Guadalupe, Goicoechea.

The incident took place outside a bar called “Stragos,” about 150 meters from the central park of Guadalupe, at 9:40 p.m.

The judge was inside of the establishment with nine other customers when gunshots were heard outside.

The judge apparently went outside the establishment to investigate when he was struck with a bullet through his left eye.

Chinchilla was transported alive to the Calderon Guardia Hospital, but died of cardiac arrest minutes after arrival.

The shooters are believed to be at least two young men, according to eyewitnesses.

Chinchilla leaves behind three children.

  • HONEST MAN

Every other day Mexico has Judges that are killed is that going to be the future in Costa Rica? This Judge should have called the police. Crime is getting out of hand in Costa Rica and i see police now that just turn there head if they see something going on in Costa Rica. Judges in CR are worse than the Mafia.

My first reaction is WTF!!! I guess “duck and cover” is still the best strategy when you hear gunfire, not “go out and investigate”.

Yeah, although we don’t really know the facts, it would appear that the fellow had an unhealthy hero fantasy. Most normal people don’t walk toward gunfire but run in the opposite direction.
