September 22nd, 2014 (InsideCostaRica.com) A police officer who was driving under the influence of alcohol was arrested on Saturday after leading other police officers on a chase, evading several roadblocks and crashing into three police vehicles and a fourth civilian vehicle in the process.
The incident took place shortly before 6pm, when officers took notice of a vehicle leaving an area where drugs are known to be sold in Rita de Pococí, Limon.
When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver of the vehicle, a 24-year-old police officer identified by the last name Sanchez, proceeded to lead other officers on the chase, which ultimately ended at the officer’s home.
Sanchez was carrying ¢800,000 in cash as well as a marijuana cigarette.
Breath tests confirmed that Sanchez was driving with 0.38 milligrams of alcohol per liter of breath, nearly five times greater than the legal limit of 0.08.
The Ministry of Public Security said it has opened an administrative proceeding against the officer.
