Police seize nearly 10,000 sea turtle eggs from two men in one of the biggest busts of its kind

September 11^th, 2014 (InsideCostaRica.com) Police seized 9,400 sea turtle eggs from two men traveling in a vehicle in Nicoya, Guanacaste.

The seizure was made at a checkpoint after a short chase. Two suspects, identified by the last names Matarrita and Sequeira, were taken into custody.

The seizure marks one of the largest of its kind in Guanacaste.

Sea turtles and their eggs are protected under Costa Rican law.

10,000 turtle eggs! CR needs to make any turtle eggs here illegal to pocess. We as greedy humans are just killing everything. What a waste , sadness and shame. I see local bars selling them with a little hot sauce. This would curtail some of this massive theft.

The problem here is that these men will probably be slapped on the wrist and set free, allowing them to go back and do it again.
