Residents on north side of Lake Arenal on 4th day without landline phone service

May 6^th, 2014 (InsideCostaRica.com) Residents in several communities on the north side of Lake Arenal have been without landline telephone service since last Friday, and the situation may continue for several more days.

Most of the communities affected are located between Tilaran and Nuevo Arenal.

The outage is the result of a massive theft of perhaps kilometers worth of cable, an ICE representative told Inside Costa Rica.

The representative said some sections of cable were replaced yesterday, only to be stolen again shortly after.  The representative said he was unable to provide an estimate as to when service would be restored, adding “it is going to take a lot of work.”
