66-year-old woman attempts to rob bank in Grecia

April 11th, 2014 (InsideCostaRica.com) A 66-year-old woman was arrested yesterday after attempting to rob a bank in downtown Grecia.

 

Apparently, the woman entered the bank about 3pm and handed an envelope to the teller.  Inside the envelope, a note stated that there were two subjects waiting outside who would kill the teller’s family if the teller did not hand over all the cash.

 

The teller handed over the money but was able to notify security guards.  The woman was taken into custody outside the bank.  The envelope contained more than ¢2,000,000 and $1,200 in cash.

 

The woman, a resident of Heredia, was referred to the Flagrancy Courts of San Ramon.  The Public Defender’s Office has asked that the woman not be charged due to her age.

 

An investigation into the matter is ongoing in order to determine if others may have been involved.

    Senior citizens get a free pass. Nice! Now I bet if she was from Nicaragua they would have thrown the book at her. Double standard with age and country… Or where am I wrong.

      You may not be wrong, but you are jumping the gun. All the story says is that the lawyer asked for her to be let off because of her age, not that the court agreed. Any good lawyer would ask this and more, but it doesn’t mean the client will get it. My bet is that there’s a guilty conviction without jail time, in part because of age but in part because the prisons are so overcrowded that a even a young Nica wouldn’t be incarcerated for a robbery in which the only weapon was a note (at least assuming that the woman was not part of a team serious about the threat). I’m thinking that the woman is a few cards short of a full deck and this is really a mental health rather than a criminal issue, although I’m not sure CR has mental health services for people like her. However, without more facts, we really don’t know anything.
