December 13th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) Residents of Naranjito de Quepos blocked the Costanera Highway for 7 hours yesterday, causing traffic jams up to 20 kilometers long in both directions.
The residents were protesting what they call 30 years of failed promises to pave Route 616 in Naranjito.
The protestors demanded an immediate response from the government. The poor state of Route 616 has taken several lives.
The protest began at 6 a.m., despite rainy conditions.
Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Jose Chacon Laurito, ultimately agreed to meet with the community, and the blockade ended.
The meeting between the minister and the community is scheduled to take place at 10 a.m. today.
